According to reports, due to lack of maintainers and the prevalence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Linux Kernel deprecated Wireless USB and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) code as early as 2019, with the Wireless USB code remaining untouched for a continuous span of 10 years.

In the Linux 5.7 Kernel update released in 2020, a significant portion of WUSB and UWB code was already removed. Now, after 3 years, these residual codes are set to be completely eliminated.

As per information gleaned from the report by IT Home, the Linux 6.6 Kernel will strip away over 20,000 lines of WUSB/UWB-related code, while also introducing an addition of 500 lines of code.

Wireless USB, once utilized for short-range wireless USB technology, could achieve speeds of 480 Mbit/s within a 3-meter range and 110 Mbit/s within a 10-meter range.

However, Wireless USB has since become outdated, as consumers increasingly prefer the usage of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
