AirPods Pro 2 earbuds have 15% larger battery capacity, but no improvement in the charging case
Regulatory filings show that the longer battery life of the second-generation AirPods Pro was achieved in part by using a physically larger battery.
Official data shows that the second-generation model has 1.5 hours more battery life compared to the first-generation AirPods Pro, with active noise cancellation enabled, for a total of 6 hours.
A listing discovered by MySmartPrice in the 3C database shows that the AirPods Pro 2 earbuds have a battery capacity of 49.7mAh.
This is a 15% increase over the 43.24mAh capacity of the first-generation AirPods Pro.
The MagSafe charging case for the second-generation AirPods Pro has a battery capacity of 523mAh, an increase of just 4mAh over the previous model.
According to Apple , the MagSafe charging case for the second-generation AirPods Pro provides an additional 6 hours of battery life, for a total of 30 hours of listening with active noise cancellation enabled.
So it’s likely that the longer battery life of the charging case actually comes primarily from improvements to the earbuds themselves.
In addition to the physically larger battery, the second-generation AirPods Pro’s H2 chip and skin-detection sensor also help extend battery life because it’s more power efficient.
