AlmaLinux 9.3 Beta Released: One of the Best Alternatives to CentOS
AlmaLinux 9.3’s first Beta has been released, supporting the following architectures:
- x86_64
- aarch64
- ppc64le
- s390x
AlmaLinux is an open-source, community-driven project that compiles from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
AlmaLinux is fully binary-compatible with RHEL 8 and was created by the makers of CloudLinux OS.
The AlmaLinux team promises to provide the AlmaLinux operating system for free indefinitely, with the project remaining open source and free of any restrictions, and it will be supported until 2029.
In 2020, Red Hat decided to stop using CentOS Linux as a standalone distribution and introduced the rolling release distribution CentOS Stream as the upstream beta version of RHEL for enterprises. The community immediately launched several projects to replace CentOS, with the most prominent being two projects: Rocky Linux, sponsored by the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation, and AlmaLinux OS, by the AlmaLinux OS Foundation.
