The vision of the AlmaLinux OS Foundation is to provide enterprise Linux users with a platform that is not only compatible but also stable and predictable.

Jonathan Wright, Chief Technology Officer at Knownhost, couldn’t contain his excitement, stating, “This release includes code I contributed to CentOS Stream upstream, which holds special meaning for me.” This underscores the collaborative spirit at the core of AlmaLinux development.

Benny Vasquez, Chairman of the AlmaLinux OS Foundation Board, expressed gratitude to the community and emphasized the significant growth witnessed by AlmaLinux. Vasquez stated:

“Our community is continually expanding, with over 600,000 servers globally regularly receiving image updates we provide. Our foundation membership has now reached almost 400 individuals and continues to grow.”

AlmaLinux OS 9.3, codenamed “Shamrock Pampas Cat,” arrives nearly six months after AlmaLinux OS 9.2, promising increased flexibility, reliability, enhanced security in mixed environments, simplified automation and system management, as well as improved security and compliance.

Additionally, AlmaLinux OS 9.3 enhances flexibility, stability, and reliability for hybrid cloud innovation. In the background, the distribution is supported by the Linux kernel 5.14.0-362.8.1.el9_3 of the upstream Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3 operating system.

The toolchain has been updated, featuring GCC 11.4.1 as the default system compiler, along with GCC 13, LLVM 16.0.6, Rust 1.71.1, Go 1.20.10, Keylime 7.3.0, Node.js 20, Redis 7, Apache 2.4.57, Grafana 9.2.10, PCP 6.0.5, Valgrind 3.21, SystemTap 4.9, elfutils 0.189, OpenSCAP 1.3.8, SEtools 4.4.3, and pcsc-lite-ccid 1.5.2.

In terms of security, AlmaLinux OS 9.3 improves support for the Extension Master Secret (EMS) extension required for all TLS 1.2 connections as per FIPS-140-3 standard requirements (RFC 7627). The SCAP security guide is updated to version 0.1.69, introducing three new SCAP configuration files compliant with CCN-STIC-610A22 guidelines and ANSSI configuration profile 2.0.
