AlmaLinux OS 10 Officially Released: Fully Compatible with RHEL 10 and Packed with Technical Innovations
The AlmaLinux OS Foundation has officially launched AlmaLinux OS 10, codenamed Purple Lion.
This new release introduces a range of features and technical upgrades aimed at delivering a more powerful and flexible enterprise-grade Linux experience.

Built from the same source code as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL 10), AlmaLinux OS 10 maintains full binary compatibility with RHEL 10. However, unlike RHEL 10—which only supports the x86_64-v3 architecture—AlmaLinux OS 10 also includes extended EPEL support for x86_64-v2, ensuring up to 10 years of security updates even on older hardware.
In its release notes, the AlmaLinux OS Foundation stated:
“Our goal is to support our community, and AlmaLinux OS is the best example of that commitment. While maintaining compatibility with RHEL, we’ve introduced enhancements tailored for users who need and know how to leverage them.”
Key Features and Enhancements in AlmaLinux OS 10:
-
SPICE Protocol Support: Enhances remote desktop capabilities through a lightweight protocol designed for standalone computing environments.
-
KVM Virtualization for IBM Power Architecture: Currently in technical preview, this brings virtualization support to IBM Power systems.
-
Secure Boot Support for ARM Platforms: Strengthens boot-time security for ARM devices, reducing potential vulnerabilities.
-
Frame Pointer Support: Enables better diagnostics and performance optimization for applications.
-
Linux Kernel Upgrade: Ships with the latest Linux Kernel 6.12 LTS, offering improved stability and hardware compatibility.
The latest installation images for AlmaLinux OS 10 are now available for download from the official website. Supported architectures include x86_64, AArch64, ppc64le, and s390x. Both Live and Install ISO options are provided. For more details and to download the release, visit:
