Android 14 QPR1 is now rolling out on all supported Pixel devices, and as expected, Google has added a lot of features to the new version of the software.

However, considering this is an official operating system update, some changes tend to be overlooked, such as on Android 14, your phone will soon be able to become a PC camera.
According to information provided by Android expert and enthusiast Mishaal Rahman, the new Android 14 QPR1 appears to let you use your Android device as a webcam. This is a very handy feature that allows you to quickly connect your phone and use it as a webcam, especially if you don’t have one installed on your desktop computer.
The webcam service app is about to become part of AOSP (Android Open Source Project), which means the feature will eventually become available on many phones. The feature won’t be a complete clone of Apple ‘s Continuity Camera, though, as this version actually works on multiple platforms. Any phone running Android 14 can be turned into a USB webcam as long as it meets the requirements, which is good news for those who want to get rid of their old cameras that no longer work.
Now, the bottom line is that we’re not sure yet if this feature is exclusive to Pixel phones with Android 14 or if it will be supported by other phones as well. Even if the webcam service becomes part of the AOSP code, it will still be up to the OEM’s design to bring the feature to its Android version.
