Canonical has released Ubuntu 22.10 beta test version.

This Thursday, Canonical released a beta test version of the Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu) operating system in order to complete full testing before its official release on October 20, 2022.

9to5Linux pointed out that the new version of the system uses the 5.19 version of the Linux kernel.

But in addition to GNOME 43, Canonical also offers several other flavors of the Linux desktop environment.

According to the plan, Canonical will officially accept Ubuntu Unity in October. Other official graphics environments include:

● KDE Plasma 5.25 for Kubuntu / Ubuntu Studio

● Xfce 4.17 and LXQt 1.1.0 for Xubuntu / Lubuntu

● Bundgie 10.6.2 and MATE 1.28 for Ubuntu Bundgie / Mate

● and UKUI 3.1 for Ubuntu Kylin

 

In addition, PipeWire and WirePlumber, which come with the system, become the default audio service/session and policy manager on Ubuntu 22.10.

The pre-installed compiler is GCC 12, which provides out-of-the-box support for the WebP image format, supplemented by other component and application updates.

Ubuntu 22.10 beta uses Linux Kernel 5.19 underlay:

● The new kernel has supported AMD ‘s secure nested paging function;

● Provided preliminary support for LoongArch (RISC) processor instruction set architecture;

● Contains ZSTD file compression algorithm, ARM Scalable Matrix extension (SME), and many other modifications,

 

 

 

If all goes well, Ubuntu 22.10 will officially arrive on October 20, 2022. Friends who can’t wait, you can move to the official website to download the beta test installation images of each version.

However, since it is not yet stable and there may be various unexpected bugs, we do not recommend that you install it blindly on the production machine, and please remember to back up the relevant data.
