EU Approves Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard! UK CMA upset: It was a mistake.
News on May 15, Microsoft’s US$69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard has successfully obtained the approval of the EU regulatory agency.
In the review, the EU, like the British CMA, focused on cloud gaming, but unlike the CMA, the EU believes that Microsoft has made relevant commitments in cloud gaming, so this deal can pass.
But obviously, CMA does not agree with this point of view of the EU, and issued a strongly worded rebuttal to it.
Sarah Cardell, head of the CMA, insisted the Commission was wrong to approve the deal, saying “while we recognize and respect the Commission’s right to take a different view, the CMA stands by its decision.”
In terms of views on the cloud game business, the CMA also has obvious differences with the EU.
The European Union has given Microsoft ten years to allow it to formulate the terms and conditions of the cloud game market during this period and build a harmonious and diverse market.
But the CMA is obviously more radical, believing that Microsoft will replace the current free, open and competitive market with a market under its control.
At present, CMA has become the biggest obstacle to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard at this stage.
