Google will start disabling Manifest V2 in June 2024
Google announced the restoration of the deprecation schedule for Manifest V2 to continue moving towards Manifest V3 to provide higher security and privacy guarantees.
The plan is to disable Manifest V2 extensions in pre-stable versions (dev, canary, and beta) of Chrome 127 and later starting as early as June 2024.
Once effective, the Manifest V2 extension will be automatically disabled in the browser, and the Manifest V2 extension can no longer be installed from the Chrome Web Store.
At the same time, Manifest V2 extensions will lose their featured badge in the Chrome Web Store (if they currently have one).

Google has previously announced that the Chrome browser will stop supporting the Manifest V2 extension in January 2023 and will no longer support updates. However, due to too many bugs, the release of Manifest V3 was postponed many times , the use date of Manifest V2 was extended, and the deprecation plan of Manifest V2 was announced in December last year.
In the past nearly a year, the project team stated that it has made a series of modifications to Manifest V3 based on feedback, solving problems reported by developers and providing better solutions for migration.
The company plans to roll out the change gradually while gathering user feedback and collecting data to ensure Chrome users are fully informed and looking for alternative extensions. It is expected that it will take at least a month for changes to be rolled out from pre-stable to Chrome stable, but the exact time may vary based on the data collected.
Enterprises that use the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy to ensure that Manifest V2 extensions continue to run in their organizations will have an additional year (until June 2025) to migrate the Manifest V2 extensions in their organizations. Browsers that previously had this policy enabled will not be affected by the suspension.
For developers who are still publishing Manifest V2 extensions, Google strongly recommends that they complete the migration to Manifest V3 before June 2024 and provides a migration guide .
