New Delhi, September 24, 2024 – In a significant move supporting India’s self-reliance push, Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced his complete transition from Microsoft Office suite to Zoho, India’s homegrown productivity platform, while urging the nation’s 1.4 billion citizens to follow suit.

“I am moving to Zoho — our own Swadeshi platform for documents, spreadsheets & presentations,” Vaishnaw declared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “I urge all to join PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s call for Swadeshi by adopting indigenous products & services,” he added, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent emphasis on domestic products and services.

The minister’s decision marks a departure from the near-universal dominance of Microsoft’s Office suite, which has long been the global standard for workplace productivity tools. This includes switching from Google Docs to Zoho Writer for word processing and collaborative document editing, from Google Sheets to Zoho Sheet for spreadsheets, and from Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint to Zoho Show for presentations.
