Government of India forms 6G Alliance: Declares it a global leader in 6G telecom technology

India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced that it will invest heavily in the construction of 6G technology, and will become a global leader in 6G technology in the future.

Currently India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has led the establishment of a “Bharat 6G Alliance”, a collaborative platform composed of public and private companies, academia, research institutions and standards development organizations.

Its ultimate goal is to make 5G and 6G and other telecom solutions easily affordable in India and make India a leading global provider of telecom IP, products and solutions.

Government of India forms 6G Alliance: Declares it a global leader in 6G telecom technology

Shri Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications, stated that India is the bright spot of the world economy, and the telecom industry is the brightest spot in India. Through the Bharat6G Alliance, India will now lead in 6G technology.

In his speech, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Communications, Railways, Electronics and Information Technology of India, said that in the past 9 years, the Indian telecom sector has undergone a series of reforms, including structural, procedural reforms and relief measures, making the Indian telecom sector a sunrise sector , the whole world is following the technological path India has traveled .

To back up his claims, Minister Ashwini cites some statistics and achievements:

  • Data cost has been reduced from Rs 300/GB in 2014 to Rs 10/GB by 2023
  • India is exporting technology to 12 countries including US
  • 4G coverage now at 99%
  • In 5G, Indian telecom industry has invested over 2.25 lakh cores
  • More than 2.7 lakh 5G towers were installed at a rate of almost 1 tower per minute , making India one of the top three 5G ecosystems in the world.
  • Nearly 1.5 million broadband connections were provided in rural areas.
  • Japan has “agreed an agreement” with India on a digital payment system in India.

Some data looks strange, and it is a bit of a spring and autumn style of writing.

Because on the same day that the Indian government announced the 6G plan, India’s largest telecom operator Jio announced that it has teamed up with local smartphone manufacturer Karbonn to create an Internet feature phone “Jio Bharat”.

The “Jio Bharat” is a 4G phone that comes bundled with a 123 rupees ($1.50) monthly airtime plan that includes unlimited voice calls and 14GB of data. The phone’s target market is directly at the 250 million Indians who currently use 2G feature phones .

In this way, although India announced that the 4G coverage rate has reached 99%, the users who can afford the 4G network and equipment are only a small part.

On the other hand, the minister also mentioned India’s semiconductor planning, in which the land approval and project approval for Micron Technology’s investment in India have been announced to be completed within two weeks, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the first chip manufacturing site will be completed in the next 40- Complete within 45 days. (Previously, Micron Technology was added to the sanctions list by the Chinese government due to security issues).
