Intel Arc Graphics Cards Expose Security Vulnerability
Intel Arc Graphics Cards Expose Security Vulnerability
Intel Arc Graphics Cards Expose Security Vulnerability: Beware if Purchased in the Last Three Months.
Intel had previously disclosed a security vulnerability named “Downfall,” affecting the 6th to 11th generation Core processors.
This flaw resided within a memory optimization feature and could lead to data leaks in applications.
However, applying a patch to mitigate the issue could result in performance losses of up to 50%.
Now, Intel has once again revealed a security vulnerability, this time within the Arc Graphics Cards series. Fortunately, the impact isn’t as severe.
This vulnerability, identified as INTEL-SA-00812, affects the highest-end models of the Arc series: Arc A770 and Arc A750.
The severity of the security threat is moderate, encompassing two aspects:
- CVE-2022-41984: Hardware protection mechanisms malfunction, allowing attackers to escalate privileges and initiate a DoS (Denial of Service) attack.
- CVE-2022-38973: Through unauthorized access in specific scenarios, attackers can launch DoS attacks or even steal information.
Fortunately, not all A770/A750 cards are susceptible to these vulnerabilities.
Only batches sold during the three-month period from October to December 2022 are affected.
However, Intel hasn’t explicitly stated why only this specific batch is impacted.
Intel has not disclosed whether firmware updates or software patches will be released.
They simply recommend affected users to reach out to customer support for assistance.
