Linux 6.15 RC6 Released: Driver Improvements, Network Performance Boosts, and File System Enhancements

On May 11, Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, announced the release of Linux 6.15 Release Candidate 6 (RC6). He also noted that the final stable version is expected to be ready in about two weeks.

Torvalds mentioned that the number of code submissions had increased compared to the previous week—something he didn’t quite hope for—but clarified that the situation is manageable and there’s no major cause for concern. “We still have two weeks to go, and everything is progressing in an orderly manner,” he said.

According to the planned release schedule, the final release candidate (RC7) is set for this week, with the stable version arriving the following week.

This latest RC focuses heavily on driver updates. Notable improvements include fixes for AMD GPU issues, enhanced performance for network adapters, and better touchpad support on Dynabook, TUXEDO, and Dell laptops.

Gaming controller compatibility also sees improvements. The update enhances support for the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller and resolves a bug affecting the Share button on Xbox One controllers.

Beyond hardware support, Linux 6.15 RC6 brings significant upgrades to file systems. Stability has been improved for Btrfs, OCFS2, and EROFS, with numerous bug fixes and better handling of compressed files. On the networking side, IPv6 performance has been enhanced in complex environments, offering users a smoother connectivity experience.
