Micron launches 2400 series QLC SSD reading speed up to 4500MB/s.
The 670p SSD launched by Intel last year really changed the image of QLC SSD, and QLC flash memory is indeed slowly eroding the market of TLC flash memory, but this process is much slower than that when TLC replaced MLC .
On January 11, Micron announced the launch of the 2400 series. SSD, using the latest 176-layer QLC flash memory, adopts PCI-E 4.0 interface, and the maximum reading speed can reach 4500MB/s.
Micron’s 176-layer flash is put into production at the end of 2020, but there is no news of QLC flash before. Compared with Micron’s own 96-layer QLC flash, the new 176-layer QLC can provide an additional 33% I/O throughput and reduce 24% read latency. Micron 2400 series SSDs are available in three capacities: 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The performance of different capacities is different. The best performance 2TB has a continuous read speed of 4500MB/s, a continuous write speed of 4000MB/s, and a random read and write speed of 650K respectively. Compared with 700K IOPS, the durability is 150TBW per 512GB. Micron said that compared with the previous generation QLC SSD, the standby power consumption has been reduced by 50%.
Micron 2400 series SSDs are available in M.2 2230, M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 specifications. They are also the only solution in the world that provides 2TB M.2 2230 SSDs. These SSDs have been shipped to OEM manufacturers. Facing the cost-effective desktop and notebook market, I wonder if Micron’s consumer-grade brand Crucial will follow up and launch corresponding products.
