Microsoft boosts free VPN traffic built into Microsoft Edge from 1GB to 5GB

In May of this year, some users found that the free traffic of Microsoft Edge’s safe browsing function was increased from 1GB to 5GB .

At that time, Microsoft was only testing for a small number of users. By default, all users have 5GB of free traffic, and the traffic is valid for one month, and will be automatically replenished in the next month after expiration.

Whether it is 1GB or 5GB, it is still relatively small. If you watch a video, it will disappear after a while.

Therefore, Microsoft’s strategy is that when users watch video websites, they will directly connect and will not go through the VPN tunnel.

At present, the Microsoft Edge safe browsing function is only available to users in the US market, and Microsoft has not mentioned whether it will be available in other markets later.

Introducing Safe Browsing:

This is a function jointly launched by Microsoft and CloudFlare. Its essence is a VPN encrypted tunnel. When a user connects, CloudFlare will allocate the local or the nearest server node according to the user’s city, which can ensure that the user can browse the local content normally and the connection speed will not be too fast. Difference.

After enabling this function, the network traffic of Microsoft Edge is transferred through the CloudFlare data center, and the advertising network cannot track the user’s real IP, and cannot push targeted advertisements through IP.

Another advantage is that the encrypted tunnel will encrypt all traffic, so that it is not easy to be hijacked when browsing content, but using this feature requires logging in to a Microsoft online account, and Microsoft will collect some data, which will not be shared with CloudFlare.

CloudFlare also collects some data for anti-abuse purposes, and the data will be deleted after 25 hours.
