For users who are still using Windows Server 20H2, Microsoft has issued a reminder: This feature update will reach End of Service (EOS) on Patch Tuesday (August 9) next month.

Microsoft reminds: “Windows Server version 20H2 will end of service on August 9, 2022. After August 9, 2022, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that include protection against the latest security threats” .

Users still running SAC releases are officially advised to switch to the Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC), which will be the primary Windows Server release channel.

“There will be no future SAC releases of Windows Server, and the product will no longer receive security updates after August 9, 2022.

Windows Server is moving to the Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) as the primary release channel,” Microsoft said.

Windows Server LTSC releases are released every two to three years, and its users are entitled to 5 years of mainstream support plus an additional 5 years of extended support.

It’s also worth noting that you cannot upgrade or change from SAC to LTSC without doing a fresh install, as they are different service channels.
