The popular web browser Microsoft Edge now offers 5GB of free built-in VPN traffic per month when you sign in to Microsoft Edge with your personal Microsoft account.

Edge comes with a one-click VPN service powered by CloudFlare, designed to give users an extra layer of privacy.

Previously, Edge VPN only offered users 1GB of free data, which proved insufficient for modern browsing needs. However, Microsoft has now addressed this limitation and increased the default quota to a more generous level.

An updated Microsoft Edge support document officially confirms the change that Edge Insiders initially spotted last month.

It’s worth noting that Edge VPN isn’t designed to be an always-on VPN solution. Microsoft is positioning it as an extra security measure, especially useful when visiting insecure HTTP websites or connecting to open Wi-Fi networks. While increased data allowances offer more flexibility, users looking for unlimited traffic or location-specific browsing may find a dedicated VPN service a more suitable option, especially for streaming services.

Microsoft Edge’s built-in VPN provides users with convenient and easily accessible tools for enhanced privacy and security while browsing. The increased data allocation of 5GB demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to improving the user experience and providing additional substantial resources to meet users’ changing needs.

Whether you need an extra layer of protection when visiting unsecured websites or connecting to public Wi-Fi networks, Microsoft Edge’s VPN feature provides a user-friendly solution. While it may not fit all VPN requirements, it’s a valuable built-in tool that complements your browser’s already robust feature set.
