September Update Cycle Complete

With this release, Microsoft has now published all September 2025 non-security preview patches:

  • Windows 11 version 24H2: KB5065789 (September 29)
  • Windows 11 version 23H2: KB5065790 (September 24)
  • Windows 10 version 22H2: KB5066198 (September 25)

Key Features and Enhancements

The KB5065789 update brings several notable improvements to Windows 11 24H2, though Microsoft notes that some features will roll out gradually and may not be immediately available after installation.

Highlighted features include:

AI Integration Expansion: The “Click to Do” feature now displays tags for popular AI actions, making frequently used and trending actions easily identifiable through right-click menus. Additionally, File Explorer gains AI capabilities, allowing users to edit images and summarize documents directly from file context menus.

Customization Options: Users can now customize the display position of hardware indicators, providing greater control over their interface layout. The Windows Share window also supports pinning favorite apps for quicker access.

Additional Improvements: Beyond the highlighted features, the update includes keyboard shortcuts for inserting en dashes and em dashes, Git integration in File Explorer’s advanced settings, a braille viewer for the Narrator app, and a plugin system for passkey management applications.

Security and System Updates: The patch introduces “Administrator Protection,” a new security feature disabled by default, and migrates time and language settings away from the legacy Control Panel. Xbox gamepad support has also been enhanced.

Optional Preview Release

As a preview patch released ahead of October’s Patch Tuesday, KB5065789 contains no security-related fixes and remains optional for installation. Microsoft targets this release at power users eager to test new features early and IT administrators who need to assess potential impacts on enterprise environments before wider deployment.

General users can safely wait for next month’s mandatory Patch Tuesday update, which will incorporate these features alongside critical security patches. The staged rollout approach allows Microsoft to gather feedback and address potential issues before the features reach the broader user base.
