The file system driver developer Paragon Software contributed the NTFS driver to the Linux kernel community in 2020, but the project has not had major updates for nearly half a year, and has not responded to the maintainer’s email feedback, so some developers worry that it has become an “orphan”. project”.

Recently, Paragon Software founder and CEO Konstantin Komarov responded to the community’s concerns .

Konstantin Komarov said Paragon did not stop development of the NTFS3 driver, nor did it intend to make it an “orphan project.” The reason for the above-mentioned situation is because of changes in their working environment.

Currently they are in the stage of obtaining a Kernel.org account and need to sign their PGP key to proceed, but due to their unfamiliarity with this process, progress in resolving this has been slow.

The current situation is that Paragon can submit patches and pull PRs through GitHub (a lot of patches have been accumulated to support new kernels, bug fixes, and fstests fixes), but this requires Linus to agree to this approach until they have git.kernel configured. org repository.

All in all, the NTFS3-driven development is still being maintained and developed, although the pace of development has slowed down in the past few months.

In addition to drivers, Paragon is also working on NTFS3 applications.
