SK hynix First consumer-grade PCIe 4.0 SSD: Platinum P41 series

SK Hynix announced the launch of the Platinum P41 series of SSDs. This is SK Hynix’s fastest M.2 NVMe SSD, and also its first consumer SSD with PCIe 4.0 x4 interface.

It adopts M.2 2280 specifications and is aimed at PC enthusiasts in the DIY market, suitable for most desktops.

Motherboard and laptop installation. Although SK Hynix is the top three NAND flash memory manufacturer in the world, there are not many models and numbers of storage products from home for many years.

Platinum P41 series SSD uses 176-layer stacked 3D NAND flash memory, matched with SK Hynix’s main control chip code-named “Aries”, and is equipped with DDR4 DRAM cache.

The maximum sequential read and write speeds of the Platinum P41 series SSD are 7000 MB/s and 6500 MB/s respectively, with 1400K IOPS for random read and 1300K IOPS for random write.

TBW will decrease as the capacity decreases, from 1200TB for the 2TB model to 500TB for the 500GB model.

SK Hynix’s march to PCIe 4.0 standard SSDs means that its products will soon compete with Samsung 980 Pro and other products.

The Platinum P41 series SSD provides three different storage capacities, 2TB, 1TB and 500GB, all with a five-year warranty.

Although SK Hynix just released the Platinum P41 series of SSDs, in fact, the market should not wait too long, and it should be in the first quarter of 2022.

Recently, SK Hynix has completed the first phase of the acquisition of Intel’s NAND flash memory and storage business, and has paid US$7 billion to purchase the NAND flash memory business including Intel’s factory in Dalian, China.

These businesses will be transferred to a new company called Solidigm, which is a subsidiary of SK Hynix, and will be headquartered in San Jose, California.

It is believed that in the next phase, SK Hynix will continue to expand its NAND flash memory business.
