Ubuntu 22.10 “Kinetic Kudu” will be released in mid-October

With the release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS , the schedule for the next release, Ubuntu 22.10, has been made public.

The Ubuntu 22.10 version also follows Ubuntu’s usual animal nomenclature, codenamed “Kinetic Kudu – Energetic Antelope” (Kudu: kudu, an African antelope ).

This version will officially start development after uploading the toolchain on April 28. The development cycle is 6 months. The final version is tentatively scheduled to be released on October 20.

9to5linux predicts that Ubuntu 22.10 “Kinetic Kudu” will use the GNOME 43 desktop environment and be powered by the upcoming Linux 5.19 kernel series.

Because the Linux 5.20 version kernel will be released on October 6th, there is only 14 days left before the Ubuntu 22.10 release date, and there is no time for full testing.

Also, Ubuntu 22.10 is not an LTS release, it is only supported for nine months and is expected to end support in July 2023.

As we all know, non-LTS versions generally introduce the most avant-garde and cool features/functions ( and bugs ) of Linux because they do not require long-term maintenance, but it is still too early to talk about the contents of Ubuntu 22.10. It is recommended to enjoy the latest Ubuntu 22.04 .
