Xiaomi Unveils CyberDog 2: Boasting Over 80% Open Source.

During the annual keynote held on August 14th, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun announced the launch of the latest iteration of their quadrupedal biomimetic robot – CyberDog 2.

The company intends to make it globally accessible by opening up its technology for collaboration.

Xiaomi Unveils CyberDog 2: Boasting Over 80% Open Source.

As per the presentation, CyberDog 2 has achieved an impressive open-source rate of over 80%, spanning from its codebase to structural blueprints.

The platform introduces graphical programming and modular processing capabilities enhanced with a range of sensory modules.

Over 100 interfaces have been made available to support the creative programming endeavors of developers.

Building upon its predecessor, CyberDog 2 has undergone substantial technological advancements.

It integrates a next-generation high-performance motor developed in-house by Xiaomi, endowing it with heightened dynamic responsiveness, thereby enabling more intricate movements.

With a fresh upgrade of 19 sensor systems, it’s now equipped with an AI voice interaction system, integrating capabilities from “Xiao Ai”, Xiaomi’s virtual assistant.

Remarkably, the robot’s size has been reduced by 16%, accompanied by a nearly 40% weight reduction, resulting in a compact form factor weighing just 8.9 kilograms, akin to the size of a Doberman Pinscher.

The new model brings enhanced biomimicry, closely resembling the appearance of real dogs.

It is powered by AI-driven autonomous learning, simulating training from 30,000 parallel instances of robotic dogs.

The intelligence quotient has surged with features like gesture-based interaction, voice control, facial recognition, and AIoT integration, synergizing capabilities for follow-behavior and obstacle avoidance.

CyberDog 2 is fortified with 12 CyberGear micro-motors, powered by AI-developed dynamic balancing algorithms, and an AI multi-modal fused perception and decision-making system.

One of the defining attributes of CyberDog 2 is its openness.

Xiaomi is liberating the system’s source code, architectural blueprints, and functional interfaces, promoting a visual programming environment.

The retail price for CyberDog 2 stands at 12,999 yuan (approximately US$1,785). Xiaomi also introduced CyberGear micro-motors integrated with the platform, priced at 499 yuan (approximately US$68).

In addition to these unveilings, Xiaomi revealed its collaboration with Guo Fan, the director of “The Wandering Earth” film series, who will be part of Xiaomi’s humanistic co-creation initiative.

He expressed, “Together with Xiaomi, let’s invite robotics technologists from around the world to unlock their imagination and jointly shape the future of robotics.”
