News on September 6,  China Mobile, ZTE, and Keysight Technologies recently completed the first operator NR-NTN low-orbit satellite laboratory simulation verification, supporting mobile satellite broadband services.

This test verification used the 3GPP R17 NR-NTN international standard, successfully verified the technical feasibility of mobile direct connection to low-orbit satellites in two basic networking modes of NR-NTN transparent forwarding and on-board regeneration, and achieved end-to-end full-link penetration and data transmission verification.

Limited by the lack of low-orbit satellite field resources in the domestic mobile direct connection frequency band, this laboratory test used Galaxy Aerospace’s “Little Spider” low-orbit broadband experimental constellation real star history data, simulating a 500KM orbit height satellite real operation trajectory, building a user link for mobile direct connection to low-orbit satellites, and an end-to-end test environment for the feeder link from the satellite to the NTN base station, simulating the large-scale space high-dynamic, large-delay, strong-attenuation transmission environment faced in the entire communication process.

Using the full-link configuration of S-band user link and Q/V band feeder link, based on 3GPP R17 NR-NTN, two basic networking modes of transparent forwarding and on-board processing were constructed, successfully realizing the terminal and base station according to the satellite trajectory segment-by-segment and link-by-link multi-Doppler ultra-large frequency offset compensation and timing synchronization adjustment under high-dynamic environment, completing the end-to-end link penetration of simulated terminal, channel simulator, base station, core network and business server.

The measured user download rate can reach 5.1Mbps under 5MHz bandwidth in transparent forwarding mode, the maximum loopback delay is 15ms, and the user and feeder full-link compensation maximum Doppler frequency offset is 1.03MHz, which basically meets expectations.

Compared with the previous IoT-NTN that only supports narrowband services such as bidirectional voice intercom and SMS, NR-NTN can provide mobile satellite broadband services for mass mobile and industry terminal users.

In other words, the satellite capability tested successfully this time is more powerful than Huawei’s flagship.
