The official statement notes that HPC is gradually gaining popularity in the field of scientific research, and with the rise of the AI wave, an increasing number of data centers are deploying various HPC high-performance computing devices.

IT Home learned from the press release that the establishment of the High-Performance Software Foundation is intended to leverage the “Exascale Computing Project” of the U.S. Department of Energy. It aims to collaborate with enterprises and a series of international projects to accelerate investments in the field of HPC, fostering collaborative development among industry, academia, and government sectors.

The Linux Foundation claims to have received substantial support from the entire HPC community, including companies and organizations such as Amazon Web Services, Argonne National Laboratory, HP, Intel, NVIDIA, Kitware, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and the University of Oregon.

In the future, the High-Performance Software Foundation will establish a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to govern various working groups focused on HPC. It will follow a governance model based on the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).
