Data Loss Issues Plague Google Drive Users

Several Google Drive users have reported unexpected data losses, claiming that files stored in the cloud mysteriously disappeared.

Upon logging into Google Drive, they discovered their files had reverted to a state from May 2023. As there were no manual deletions, the Recycle Bin showed no record of the missing files.

Other users shared similar experiences, with some stating the loss of six months’ worth of business data. Additionally, some users reported a halt in the sync function, causing files in cloud storage to no longer reflect the latest versions.

While some users managed to recover partial information by adjusting cache files, those affected are advised not to make any changes until engineers find a solution.

A message from the Google support team suggested refraining from modifying the root/data folder during the investigation. Speculation among users suggests a possible connection to accidental account deletions.

This situation typically affects cloud files spanning several months and cannot be restored using recovery tools. Some users have located partial data in cache files. Currently, Google officials have acknowledged the issue and stated that it is under investigation. However, they haven’t provided a specific timeline for the fix and cannot confirm whether all files can be recovered after the resolution.
