Firefox 150 Released: Enhanced Split View, Smarter PDF Editor, and Expanded Privacy Protections

Mozilla has officially released Firefox 150 on April 20, 2026, bringing a focused set of practical improvements to multitasking, document editing, privacy, and platform integration. Rather than chasing headline-grabbing AI features, this update targets real friction points that everyday users encounter — refining tools that already exist and making them more powerful.

Here is a full breakdown of what is new.

Split View Gets More Useful

Split View, which debuted in Firefox 149 last month allowing users to view two web pages side by side in a single tab, receives a meaningful upgrade in Firefox 150.

The most notable addition is a right-click context menu option: users can now select “Open Link in Split View” directly from any link on a page, without having to manually drag tabs or navigate menus. When creating a new split without a link, users can now also search through all currently open tabs to pick one for the split panel.

Additionally, a Reverse Tabs option appears in the split panel’s three-dot context menu, making it easy to swap the left and right positions of the two pages with a single click.

PDF Editor: Page-Level Control

Firefox’s built-in PDF viewer has evolved into a more capable editor with this release. Firefox 150 now supports reorganizing PDF pages directly inside the browser — users can move, copy, paste, delete, and export selected pages without relying on any third-party application.

To use these features, simply drag and drop a local PDF file into Firefox. These additions build on Firefox’s existing annotation and form-filling capabilities, pushing the built-in viewer closer to a lightweight PDF management tool.

On-Device Translations: Now with a Dedicated Page

Firefox has long offered on-device private translations for web pages and selected text, processing everything locally to protect user privacy. Firefox 150 extends this with a dedicated translation interface.

Type tra in the URL bar and click the translate chip that appears to open the about:translations page. From there, users can paste any text, select source and target languages, and see results appear in real time — all without sending data to external servers. This makes the translation feature available as a standalone tool, not just a page-visit utility.

Multi-Tab Sharing

Tab management also sees a quality-of-life improvement. Users can now select multiple open tabs (using Shift + click) and right-click to access Share > Copy [number] links, which instantly copies all selected tab URLs to the clipboard simultaneously, ready to paste into a message, document, or email.

A new option in Settings > Tabs also lets users disable drag-and-drop tab group creation for those who find it more disruptive than helpful.

Expanded Local Network Privacy Protections

On the security front, Firefox 150 extends local network access restrictions to a broader user base. Websites must now request explicit user permission before connecting to devices on the local network or to services running on the user’s own machine — such as local servers or smart home devices.

Previously, this protection was limited to users who had Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Strict mode. Mozilla is now rolling it out more widely via a progressive deployment, so some users may see the change arrive gradually after updating.

Linux: GTK Emoji Picker Support

For Linux users, Firefox 150 adds native support for the GTK emoji picker. This allows users to insert emoji using the standard system shortcut — typically Ctrl+. on GTK-based desktop environments — bringing Firefox’s behavior more in line with other native Linux applications.

macOS Fix: Emoji in Lockdown Mode

A macOS-specific bug has been resolved in this release. Previously, emoji characters failed to display correctly in web content when Apple’s Lockdown Mode was enabled. Firefox 150 corrects this behavior.

Developer and DevTools Updates

For web developers, Firefox 150 brings several targeted improvements to DevTools and web platform support:

  • The Document.caretPositionFromPoint() method now only returns a position inside a shadow DOM when the relevant ShadowRoot is explicitly passed through the new shadowRoots option, improving shadow DOM handling precision.
  • The DevTools pseudo-class toggle panel now includes support for the :open pseudo-class on elements like <dialog>, and the :visited toggle has been consolidated into the element-specific section.
  • The network monitor now indicates when a connection uses a certificate issued by a certificate authority outside Mozilla’s Root CA Program.
  • CSS enhancements include support for animation-range-start, animation-range-end, and the animation-range shorthand for scroll-driven animations, along with the light-dark() CSS function now accepting <image> values.
  • Multiple import maps are now supported, giving developers more flexibility in structuring JavaScript module loading.

How to Get Firefox 150

Firefox 150 is available for download today from firefox.com and Mozilla’s FTP servers. Windows and macOS users will receive the update automatically over the air in the coming days. Linux users should expect the new version to appear in their distribution repositories shortly, and Ubuntu users on Snap will be prompted to relaunch once the update downloads in the background.

Note: Firefox no longer supports Windows 8.1 and below, or macOS 10.14 and below. Users on those systems should download Firefox ESR instead.
