AMD Ryzen processor is expected to unlock native USB4.
When AMD and Intel compete in the processor market, we should not only look at the performance of the CPU, but also consider the entire ecology. One of the major disadvantages of the Ryzen platform is the interface, especially the support on USB4 is a bit slow.
Fortunately, there is still a solution to this problem. Because the Intel platform has Thunderbolt 4 (Thnunderbolt4), and has native support on mobile and desktop platforms in the past two years, the ecology is relatively complete.
AMD has supported USB4 since last year’s Ryzen 6000 mobile processor, but the desktop platform has no native support. At present, it mainly relies on third-party support from manufacturers, but it requires additional costs.
AMD CEO Lisa Su recently visited several Taiwanese manufacturers, including ASMedia.
Many players should know that the latter has received AMD’s South Bridge chip orders since 2016.
Many motherboard chipsets are actually designed by ASMedia , but the X-series high-end chipsets for the past two years were made by AMD itself.
One of Xiangshuo’s key businesses is USB chips. It is also one of the key manufacturers in the USB4 era.
Its products have been certified by the USB-IF Association. The main control chip is expected to be certified by the end of the year and will be mass-produced next year.
It is foreseeable that the meeting between AMD and Xiangshuo is bound to have cooperation on USB4.
At present, the Ryzen 7000 desktop platform does not have native USB4 support.
Next year, the new generation of chipsets may integrate ASMedia’s solution to complement the competition with Thunderbolt 4.
