OpenAI has announced the expansion of its “self-introduction” feature to all users, including those using the free version.
This feature was initially introduced in July as a testing feature for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, allowing users to pre-set various preferences and requirements for the AI chatbot to consider in its responses.
This feature aims to save users time by eliminating the need to repeatedly issue the same instructions to the chatbot during interactions.
Users can set their role for the current conversation, enabling ChatGPT to align its responses more closely with the user’s contextual needs.
For instance, users can request ChatGPT to maintain specific word counts in its answers or customize the tone of its responses.
In its initial unveiling of the feature in July, OpenAI provided an example of a teacher using ChatGPT to plan curriculum, without having to repetitively specify that the curriculum is designed for third graders to receive relevant responses.
The “self-introduction” feature, originally exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers who pay $20 per month, has now been extended to free users as well.
Furthermore, developers utilizing this feature can request the chatbot to respond in their preferred language or exclude languages they dislike.
The company previously stated, “Engaging with users from 22 countries has deepened our understanding of the role control plays in enabling our model to effectively cater to the diverse backgrounds and unique needs of individuals.”
Originally, the customizable aspect of the “self-introduction” feature was available only to ChatGPT Plus subscribers who paid $20 per month.
Now, this functionality is also accessible to free users, including those on iOS and Android platforms.
Additionally, OpenAI noted that the custom feature can be used even when chat history is turned off.
To utilize the custom feature, users can click on their username and select “Self-Introduction” to get started.
The company mentioned that this feature will soon be launched in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
