Xiaomi’s Wi-Fi 6 Router AX1500 Makes Its Debut: Priced at Only US$18 with All-Gigabit Adaptive Ports and Self-Developed Mesh Networking

December 12th, Xiaomi’s AX1500 router had its first sale, hitting the market at an initial price of just 129 CNY (about US$18) in China.

This marks Xiaomi’s most budget-friendly Wi-Fi 6 router, positioned as an entry-level option.

The Xiaomi Router AX1500 boasts a theoretical dual-frequency concurrent speed of up to 1501Mbps, with the 5GHz band supporting Wi-Fi 6 technology, ensuring a smooth and stable experience for activities such as streaming and gaming.

Reportedly, the router’s back panel features four all-gigabit adaptive ports, eliminating the need to distinguish between WAN and LAN ports, as any port can be used for internet connectivity.

The Xiaomi Router AX1500 supports Xiaomi’s self-developed Mesh networking technology, allowing for various ways of mixed networking, with a maximum of 10 routers connectable.

Through the use of OFDMA technology, the router can simultaneously transmit data to multiple devices, ensuring that multiple devices can connect to the internet without interfering with each other.

With the support of Xiaomi’s self-developed “Fast Connect” technology, the Mi Home App can automatically discover nearby Xiaomi smart devices that are not yet networked, eliminating the need for manual password entry and enabling easy network access. It also supports Wi-Fi password changes and automatic device reconnection.

In addition, the Xiaomi Router AX1500 supports IPTV functionality, making it easy to configure network television when paired with a set-top box.

On other fronts, this router comes with features such as Xiaomi phone-exclusive gaming acceleration, internet usage time management, anti-scratch network support, and a dedicated network for guests.

What is OFDMA technology?

OFDMA, or Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access, is a technology used in wireless communication systems, particularly in the context of Wi-Fi.

It is a key feature of the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard and is designed to improve the efficiency and performance of wireless networks, especially in environments with a high density of connected devices.

Here’s a breakdown of the key concepts:

  1. Orthogonal Frequency Division (OFD): This part of the technology involves dividing the available frequency spectrum into multiple smaller sub-channels, each using a slightly different frequency. This allows multiple data streams to be transmitted simultaneously without significant interference.

  2. Multiple Access (MA): This refers to the ability of multiple devices to share the same communication channel. Multiple Access is a common feature in wireless communication, and technologies like OFDMA enhance how multiple devices access and utilize the available bandwidth concurrently.

In the context of OFDMA:

  • Efficient Use of Spectrum: OFDMA enables the simultaneous transmission of data to multiple devices on the same frequency channel by assigning subsets of sub-channels to individual devices. This improves spectral efficiency, allowing for more data to be transmitted in the same amount of spectrum.

  • Support for Many Devices: OFDMA is particularly beneficial in environments with a high density of devices, such as crowded urban areas, stadiums, or offices. It allows the router to communicate with multiple devices at the same time, reducing latency and improving overall network performance.

  • Improved Performance: By enabling more efficient use of the available spectrum and reducing interference between devices, OFDMA contributes to higher data rates, improved reliability, and better overall performance in Wi-Fi networks.

Wi-Fi 6, with OFDMA as one of its key features, brings significant advancements in handling multiple devices simultaneously, making it a suitable choice for modern, connected environments where numerous devices share the same wireless network.
