macOS Golden Gate Developer Beta 2 Released
Apple has released the second developer beta of macOS Golden Gate (macOS 27), arriving roughly two weeks after the first developer beta seeded immediately following WWDC26. Developers can access the update by navigating to System Settings > General > Software Update, enabling the “Beta Updates” option, and signing in with a free developer account — no paid membership is required.
The new build carries version number 26A5368g and arrives alongside Beta 2 updates for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, and HomePod Software 27.
Interface Refinements
macOS Golden Gate continues to refine its Liquid Glass design language. Opacity has been improved to enhance text and content readability, and a new slider now lets users manually control the level of transparency across interface elements. Shadow effects have also been adjusted, making it easier to distinguish the currently active window.
- System app toolbars now follow a more unified style
- Sidebars use an edge-to-edge, border-fit design
- Window corners have a narrower, more standardized radius
- Menu bar icon count has been reduced for visual consistency
Siri Becomes “Siri AI”
One of the most significant changes in Golden Gate is the transformation of Siri into Siri AI, a chatbot-style intelligent assistant. Siri AI combines general world knowledge, personal user data, and awareness of on-screen content to answer questions and surface information. It’s now integrated directly into Spotlight through a new “Search or Ask a Question” interface, and a standalone Siri app is also available for chatting with the assistant and reviewing past conversations.
On newer Macs, users can further customize Siri’s voice, adjusting speech rate and delivery style.
Visual Intelligence and Writing Tools
Golden Gate brings Visual Intelligence to the Mac for the first time, allowing Siri to interpret images or on-screen interface content and answer related questions. A new “Write with Siri” feature can generate text or offer editing suggestions, aimed at assisting with everyday writing and office tasks.
Updates Across System Apps
- Photos: new AI-powered editing tools for quickly optimizing or adjusting images
- Safari: AI-powered tab organization that automatically categorizes and manages open tabs
- Passwords: an option to automatically update weak passwords using AI
- Image Playground: revamped to support more realistic, photorealistic image generation
For a complete breakdown of every feature in macOS Golden Gate, Apple’s official system overview remains the most comprehensive reference as the beta cycle continues through the summer.
